Rethinking I-94 Project

Piloting tools and strategies to better incorporate equity into project-level decision-making.

In the Statewide Multimodal Transportation Plan, MnDOT committed to incorporating equity into transportation decision-making. However, more work is needed to fully understand what that means for the transportation system and how it will be best accomplished. The Rethinking I-94 study because of its size, importance, location and history, provides a platform for MnDOT to explore new tools and strategies. We've already learned a lot from this project and will continue to learn more in the future.

Since 2016, as part of the Rethinking I-94 project, we have used a new approach to engage with communities along the corridor in Minneapolis and St. Paul. Our goal was to better plan for future transportation changes on and along the freeway. We spent our time listening and learning. As a result, we made commitments to guide future engagment and a created a new framework to inform the design and evaluation of potential projects.
